About (after...)

(after...) is the name for a planned series of biennial international conferences and symposia, run through the School of English, Media Studies and Art History at the University of Queensland, Brisbane, Australia.

Each (after...) conference will address a broad aspect of literary studies in their relationship to the humanities in general. A focus for the conference will be provided by the work of one or two major scholars hosted by the School. The conference is to be the occasion for assembling material for a collaborative book rather than a collection of essays, and will also provide opportunities for publishing papers in a number of journals.

Each (after...) conference is to be followed by a one-day symposium that will take the concerns and the themes of the conference into the context of the professional and institutional pragmatics of teaching, and in particular the teaching of literary studies. These (teaching after...) symposia will give the opportunity to discuss teaching with the conference's keynote speakers, in a more informal setting. There will be a separate registration for these events, and numbers will be limited. An edited version of the discussion will be published.
