Call for papers
We invite proposals for 20-minute papers, and
panels of papers, on a wide range of topics connected with the
work of mourning in the humanities, such as:
- considerations of the work and functions of the post (colonial, structuralist or modernist)
- considerations of the work of writers, literary and philosophical, on the work of mourning and hospitality
- the roles of the humanities in a post-humanities age, of theory after theory, and of literature after literature
- the concepts of tradition
- teaching the humanities in the current political and economic climates
- recent debates about critical literacy and the role of literature in the primary and secondary education systems.
Proposals should be no more than 250 words, and should be accompanied by a brief bio of the presenter, of no more than 100 words. Should the paper be accepted, both of these will be for publication in the conference program.
Please submit all proposals for papers and panels through our online abstract submission system, through this link or the link at the foot of this page. We shall advise you as soon as possible of your acceptance or otherwise, at very latest within a month of submission.
Please note that due to demand, the deadline for submission of abstracts has been extended to Monday
30 April.

Note (28 March 2007)
Once you've submitted a proposal, this module should generate an automatic email message, confirming that it has been received. It's been brought to our attention that sometimes users may get an error message saying that the module is unable to send the email. In all cases we know of, it has had no effect on the actual success of submissions: the proposals have all been safely there in our database when we''ve checked. We've got our technical people to look at this, and they assure us it will be fixed as soon as possible. Until it is, we'll send confirming emails by hand within one or two working days of submission.
