Help me sort the saccharin from the sublime, the lemming from the sea-lion, the Kinkabool from the Marekesh (sic), the symbolic and cultural from the economic. After a brief visit to Tuscany and Santa Fe, we return to the coast to look for lost horizons and to consider the ancient maritime phenomenon of looming as well as the lure of imported marble and all-European appliances. We delve into the ins and outs, the ups and downs, the long and the short, and find out where David Malouf fits into the picture.
