'Getting Published' Workshop

Publishing in peer-reviewed journals is essential in the current climate of higher education, but to those who are new to publishing this can be very daunting and frustrating. The aim of this workshop is to introduce those who are new to publishing to the processes involved in journal publishing including: how to choose a journal, how to prepare a manuscript, the review process, the decision and the production process. The workshop aims to encourage participants to consider a range of different publishing opportunities including book reviews, short articles, commentaries, and reviewing articles. Participants will have the opportunity to view (anonymised) examples of decision letters and reviewer's reports to enable them to have a clear vision of what is involved in making editorial decisions about which papers to accept for publication. The workshop will give a series of hints and tips to help participants feel confident about submitting papers for publication and to help them increase the likelihood that their papers will be accepted. This workshop will address these issues using concrete examples from the practices of the international journal Feminism & Psychology although the processes involved are, of course, not unique to this journal. The workshop aims to give those who have little understanding of how journal publishing works a thorough understanding of the issues from the experience of the presenters who work closely with this journal.

Bios: Hannah Frith is an Associate Editor with Feminism & Psychology, and is responsible for the Observations and Commentaries section which publishes short, pithy pieces.
