To complete this assignment successfully students will demonstrate the following:

  1. Sound knowledge of cultural studies approaches
  2. Ability to apply this knowledge to a specific topic
  3. Ability to research the published literature on a topic
  4. Ability to critically assess the published literature on a topic
  5. Ability to organise research information around a topic.
  6. Ability to provide a clear and logically written account of the research plan, the reading, and the preliminary findings.

The levels of achievement expected are as follows:

To achieve a grade of 4: the student will demonstrate a basic knowledge of relevant cultural studies approaches to the topic, and present a coherent account of what they have learned from their research. It will be clearly and correctly written.

To achieve a grade of 5: the student will demonstrate well informed knowledge of the relevant cultural studies approaches to the topic and present a well organized account of what they have learnt from their research. It will be clearly and accurately written, displaying evidence of a thoughtful approach to the task.

To achieve a grade of 6 or above: the student will demonstrate a relatively sophisticated knowledge of the relevant cultural studies approaches to the topic, and present an astute, thoughtful or imaginative account of what they have learnt from their research. It will be well written, with a clearly developing argument.
