About the School


The School of English, Media Studies and Art History comprises:

  • a large research-oriented school with more than 40 academic staff and an impressive record of teaching, scholarship and publication;  
  • staff who have won many teaching excellence awards;
  • staff who are working on a large number of national and international research projects that have attracted funding from industry and government;  and
  • a number of outstanding Research Centres, as well as national and international journals.

If you are just starting university studies, the School can offer you a wide choice of undergraduate courses across a number of majors, such as Art History, Communication and Cultural Studies, Drama, English, English Language and Communication Studies, English Literature, Film and Television Studies, Linguistics, Media Studies, Women's Studies, and Writing.

If you are considering a postgraduate research higher degree, this can be undertaken in any field in which the School's staff have research interests. The staff listings in these pages give an indication of the broad research base and the many areas of expertise offered by the School.
