Communication, Media and Cultural Studies

What is Communication, Media and Cultural Studies?

Communication studies deals with the general processes through which we communicate, and with basic social semiotics. Cultural studies is particularly concerned with investigations into everyday life. Together they concentrate on particular examples of communicative processes and the forms and meanings of popular culture. Research is conducted into the signifying structures of a range of popular cultural texts, from film and television, radio, internet, and magazine and other print sources.

Staff in this area are closely aligned with the Centre for Critical and Cultural Studies.

Monthly MACS is a cross-institutional network of early career researchers, postgraduate students, postdocs, RAs and sessional staff working in Media and Cultural Studies across Brisbane, organised by the Centre for Critical and Cultural Studies.
